Welcome to my project_log: A series where I give a raw, unpolished update on what I'm building at my independent development studio.
Last update for 2024. Crazy.
This'll be a quick one as I've been taking some time away from the desk to spend time with family and get some surfing in (although the waves have been tiny...).
Client projects:
Before we jump in, I wanted to congratulate myself on something. I'm now fully booked through till March 2025. It's such a crazy contrast to this time last year when I had barely any leads and the pipeline was looking very dry. Grateful.
On to the client project update:
For context, I have two client projects in active development: a large AI company site and a design agency site build. I also just wrapped up a modular CMS build for a credit union.
The credit union site has been handed over to the client to start entering content. There will be some minor changes required, but for the most part, this site is completed. Feels good to have this one ticked off within the deadline.
No real progress was made on the AI company site and agency site build. Just a bunch of prep work to help make January as smooth as possible. I want to get both these projects complete by 30/01/2025.
Now to the fun stuff:
Last week, I mentioned I was going to release an MVP version of the new brand. This week I made some solid progress on that MVP.
I shared this tweet which featured the carousel I've been working on. It's not perfect by any means, but seems to have been received well: https://x.com/willthomson__/status/1872454592598028558
I've also set up the CMS (using Sanity of course). As you can see below, it's very minimal. At this stage, I only need a CMS for the carousel items, which include fields for a thumbnail, title, project type, and a project video.
The project video will be shown when hovering on the card. I needed a way to show off the motion of my work without making the experience too overstimulating. Still need to work on the interactions, but you get the idea:
(Shout out to vucko.co & inette.co for inspo. Both teams crushed this feature)
Goals for the week:
Not setting any hard goals this week other than to relax, recharge and prepare for 2025. Everyone I work with is out of office at the moment, so it's a good chance to take some time off.
But since I'm writing this on the 31st of December, I'd like to share my goal for 2025:
1 Product.
2 Customers.
Happy holidays. Keep crushing. See you next year.
Will
