We all tell ourselves stories. It's a common part of the human experience.

The problem is when we treat fiction as non-fiction and factual. The nature of perception - and self-perception - is similar to when we watch a movie that's "based on a true story".

You're seeing an approximation, an abstraction on top of what is true and real. You need to understand that's the dynamic at play.
