Who do you want to be?
The world that we live in currently, is not something anyone envisioned. I don't think besides the best of the academics and the worst of the capitalists, anyone could imagine standing where we stand right now. Anyone reading this knows what I'm talking about, but I'll still lay it out (as I see it) for you. The world as I see it through the eyes of an young 25 year-old looks to me as follows:
The strongest and richest countries in the world are now the most volatile, as the internet age and now the AI age has democratised knowledge and globalisation caused the most stable period ever in the history of humanity. Which means the gap between the first, second and third worlds is meaningfully decreasing. But power can neither be created nor be destroyed, and the morally corrupt overreaching leaders are now putting the world at risk for another power-grab. Who suffers in the process? Me, you, countless of innocent people in places like Gaza, Ukraine, Iran, the troops that are hauled there in droves for war. While we risk our lives, sanity and livelihood for these people, they sit in a mansion pulling strings caring only about re-election (in some cases they don't have to worry about that either).
The world-economy is more unstable than it has ever been and all of us youngsters have become mere tools for debates meant to be a distraction from a genuinely fucked system, playing games that are rigged. A student going through an expensive college education in the US is genuinely screwed financially and at the end of their degree, be it medicine or the humanities has to now run the rat-race to pay off the mountain of debt standing in front of them. All in the time of internet, podcasts, unlimited availability of literature most of it for free. With the exception of a few professions, what does a degree give you that endless reading, meeting new people, travelling, writing and working extensively won't give you? Nothing. And you'll probably earn while doing that stuff on your own, rather than owing $300,000 in student debt.
And if you're in a country like India, you are truly and royally fucked. A society that tells you even how to breathe (but doesn't give clean air), tells you not to dream and aim for a perpetual meaningless mediocre pay check–that too after climbing over at least a crore people to get even that and an environment that is so controlled by one side of the political spectrum that now you have to think twice saying anything about anything, unless it completely aligns with the agenda of the farthest-right. They pick the professors that teach you(most of them shit), they pick what you're allowed to eat, listen to, watch, like, dislike. If you're the least bit decent as a human being in India, you're now seeing what the jews saw build up to mass persecution in the 1900s Germany.
The AI age, has opened a Pandora's box that has challenged our very perception of reality. People don't know what will happen to any profession, job, consumption media or anything else. We have created a nearly sentient being to do the thinking, operations and execution for us based data from our own past actions (so it'll make the same mistakes as us but on a much larger scale). And now AI's Big Three are in a race to exploit the countries with the most amount of legislative apathy towards their citizens to create processing power for the program that will harm that very population the most. That too for what, at best creating the next 3 world's richest people, at the cost of having caused the biggest divide of haves and have nots the world has ever seen.
So my question is to everyone, running the race and having the pointless debates and wasting their precious time on this planet serving the 100 most apathetic people in their endeavours to by planes, yachts and mansions–Who do you want to be? You want to be the person living life on the terms of an algorithm meant to drain you? Or are you the person that now says "What can I do?" Do you still choose to be hung-up on the debates of who is welcome in what country and who is not–the puppet show that's on so that you don't peak behind the curtains? Or will you be the one that says to these assholes, "You cannot ignore the consequences of your actions and immorality, just because you'll not be the ones bearing them"? What are you willing to do? And... Who do you want to be?
