mars as a thought vehicle to reimagine human systems
the internet gave us a global spawn point, but we've reached its limits. we're trapped on the “apathy island”, stuck in a post-globalization reflection chamber where nothing feels big enough to drive collective action, endlessly reflecting on ourselves without a compelling next horizon
we need a new physical frontier to truly reimagine ourselves
entering: mars not as a colonial escape but as ✨ a thought vehicle to reimagine human systems ✨
our origin stories are rarely about where we're going and more about the boats we build to get there
@HipCityReg + @angelofuture put this brilliantly tbh: it's about finding an image big enough to pull humanity forward, arguing we're stuck because our current stories feel smaller than our interconnected reality

push against monoculture narratives. our next origin story needs to emerge from the internet's 'hyper global intercultural experience' rather than any single nation or culture (spawn points are shaping the outcome)
come up with multiple competing visions. there's only one person that talks about mars extensively and that's elon. we need more
move beyond fixed identity constructs. being locked into rigid self-identity limits creativity, collaboration, and economic opportunity. we should design for fluid, evolving identities rather than static ones
create layered, transparent reference systems. practice what they call the "ecosystem vs ego system" approach, where you openly acknowledge and point to your influences and references, allowing others to explore deeper rather than positioning yourself as the sole originator
reimagine borders not as barriers for exclusion but as zones that help us appreciate the distinct "flavors" and richness of different areas/cultures while maintaining flow between them
build using "byproduct thinking". rather than directly attacking problems, create ambitious visions whose pursuit naturally solves other issues as byproducts (like how the space race led to numerous technological advances)
design for story arcs, not end states. create trajectories and summit-reaching journeys rather than focusing on final destinations. mars itself is not the goal, it's the "boat" that moves us forward
break the "apathy island". create images and goals substantial enough to break through current cultural apathy, particularly among youth. most current initiatives aren't ambitious enough to inspire real movement
think in "resonant intervals". ensure new visions operate at the right scale relative to their origin points to create meaningful momentum and avoid being absorbed into existing systems
build with awareness of previous failures. consciously learn from and design around the mistakes of previous large-scale human projects (like how colonization played out) rather than repeating them
