Climate Tech must become Climate Defence Tech

WHY? Because we were too slow. We blew it.

The era of climate mitigation is effectively over. We are now on a trajectory for 2.7°C of warming. 80% above the 1.5°C target that was meant to keep us within the boundaries of a livable planet.

Hopes of course correction are pretty much nonexistent. India and China are burning more fossil fuels than ever, and the U.S. is increasingly adopting a skeptical stance on climate policy.

Smaller nations like the UK need to brace themselves.

WHAT SHOULD WE DO? Beyond large-scale geo-engineering?

We need to build new climate-resilient cities and transform existing urban cities and economic hubs into climate fortresses.

If we don’t, the future will be defined by relentless disasters, More catastrophic urban wildfires like Palisade, CA (expected to cost north of $50bn) or devastating flash floods like those that tore through Valencia, Spain and killed almost 100 people.

The cost of inaction? Insurer Swiss Re estimates $23 trillion USD per year by 2050. Effectively a quarter of global GDP.

This is no longer about “saving the planet.” It’s about surviving on it. If we fail to fortify our cities, economic centres and adapt to the harsh realities of climate change, the damage will spiral into a self-perpetuating nightmare—trillions in damages annually, for generations to come.

It’s time to get real. Climate defense tech isn’t optional—it’s our last stand.
