5 Things I've Learnt About Writing: "A two day steak is better than a one day streak."
Day 2 of writing on this platform.
A two day steak is better than a one day streak.
Writing can feel like a daunting task, but over time, I’ve learned a few simple truths that make it easier and more enjoyable.
Here’s what I’ve discovered so far:
Just bloody write.
Honestly, the amount of time I spend thinking about writing versus actually writing is worlds apart.
The key for me is to push through that writing-based procrastination and get words down. There are times when I break through and build momentum—like now. I’m on a two-day writing streak and hoping to keep it going!
Use AI for spelling, grammar, and formatting.
If you’re worried about the technical side of writing, let AI handle it.
It’s made things so much easier for me as a dyslexic writer. Honestly, I’m still a bit annoyed this wasn’t around when I was studying, but hey, it’s here now—might as well make the most of it.
In the beginning, just write about anything.
Build the habit first. The topics you should focus on will come to you over time.
If you’re writing for personal fulfillment, your focus might be different than if you’re writing to make money or grow influence for a business or entrepreneurial goal. But at the start, the process is the same: just write.
Start small, like I did with book reviews.
I began by reviewing books on LinkedIn.
Every day, I’d spend a couple of hours reading a book, then write my thoughts about it—what it taught me, who it could help, and what lessons I planned to take forward.
Smash out a rough draft—it doesn’t have to be perfect.
This was a game-changer for me. For the longest time, I tried to write and publish everything in one sitting.
Sometimes it worked, but for deeper or longer-form content, it didn’t.
The best work I’ve produced—the stuff with real substance—came from 3–4 rounds of writing, editing, proofing, getting feedback, and finally pressing “post” with a burst of excitement.
